Emahoy Tsegué-Mariam Guèbrou, a musical prodigy with an epic life story, was born in Ethiopia in 1923, and has been living in a monastery in Jerusalem since 1984. She has been writing music since the 1930s in a unique style influenced by Beethoven, Chopin and Schumann and Brahms, while also using modes and motifs from Ethiopian music. This combination of classical and Ethiopian music has created a new and distinctive sound.
In this two-volume boxed set, one book, in English, Amharic and Hebrew, includes a biography, pictures of her life, paintings, original manuscripts and a collecton of articles which try to capture the magic of this woman and the fascinating circumstance of her music.The second volume contains sheet music for twelve of her compositions for piano. She was involved in helping with the transcription.
