Shawn Kelly lives in La Crescenta, California. A mom of three grown children, Shawn is a graphic designer who loves to draw. She studied art and design at UCLA, then went on to Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, earning a BFA in advertising design.

After a career as an advertising agency art director, Shawn stopped working to have a family. Now that her kids are all launched, she devotes her time to her graphic design business and her portrait work. She loves the graphics side, working on a Mac and being all about business and technology, but there is nothing like putting pencil to paper to really connect with her artistic self.

Shawn draws people, animals, homes and even landscapes. Although she works from photos, her portraits are not photo-realistic. She loves the way pencil marks look on the paper, giving a unique emotional quality and spontaneity to the finished work. Her goal is to create a portrait that captures a striking resemblance, while not precisely duplicating the photograph.
