Description
"Heaven, Earth & Mankind" by Daniel R. Benjamin. Framed, Matted, Ready to hang. 22.5"x 28.5"
"Heaven, Earth & Mankind" is from a series of four photographs by Daniel Richard Benjamin, who died in December 1993 from AIDS related complications. He was fifteen hours short of his 30th birthday. Dan was a talented artist in more than one field, but primarily in decorative painting, and stenciling, a career which followed in the footsteps of his great grandfather who practiced this artform in Bremerhaven, Germany at the turn of the last century.
"Heaven, Earth & Mankind" was made in the fall of 1992 at a time when Dan was given a simple "point & shoot" camera so that he could experiment with photography and hopefully create a visual diary of what was important to him at this time in his life.
If the photos in this series seem to have a spiritual quality to them, it may be that they reflect Dan's search during that time. for what was fundamental in his remaining life.
This piece was donated by the talented and prolific artist, who is also Dan's father, Richard Benjamin, in collaboration with Picture This: Framing Center & Gallery. This collaboration continues to support HIV/AIDS services.
