Mark is a young boy who likes "daydreaming and writing stories about faraway places" more than playing games with the other children who tease him. The picture shows him looking at a book with a pile of books beside him. In the university he finally fits in. Then he begins to travel all over the world and write about it. He travels to China, England, Australia, and the South and North Poles. At the North Pole he discovers Santa who is upset about letters from all over the world which he has not had time to answer. Mark tells Santa "I've been to all seven continents." Santa thinks he is just the one to deliver all the letters with a "stamp cancellation, or ?postmark' from the North Pole." Santa says, "Your name tells me you're the perfect fit—not a misfit at all. Is it okay if I call you ?Post' Mark?" Santa asks if he will deliver the letters, and Mark agrees to do it.
