Murphy's Company was attcked by 6 tanks and 100's of Germans. He ordered his men to retreat but he remained directing Artillery, firing a machine gun atop a burning AFV, and when his fire broke up the attack, he rallied his men to counterattack. He earned all US awards for valor and was the highest decorated American soldier of WWII.
This sculptures was created as a gift to the United States Army’s “Sergeant Audie Murphy Club” which is an honorary society for outstanding noncommissioned officers. Nomination for membership in the SAMC is considered a great honor in the United States Army and few achieve this honor. The sculpture is available for sale in the gift shop of the Audie Murphy Museum in Greenville, Texas located in Murphy’s home county and profits from those sales benefit the museum.
The sculpture was a study for a life size bronze bust of Audie Murphy which is permanently installed at Ft. Sill Army Base, Oklahoma in historic Snow Hall, the home of the Army artillery school. A copy of that bust photograph is included with the pictures of this item as well as the miniature bust.
Sculpture comes with a certificate of authenticity.
Pictures of other completed sculptures are included for reference. They are not the auction piece. The auction piece is the bust on the stand with the inscription. This image is the primary image on the auction piece. Please email me with questions.
