A mentor text is a published piece of writing a teacher uses during a writing lesson to either teach a writing skill or to motivate the students to want to write something creatively similar. Purchasing copies of mentor texts will help teach the ideas, structures, and authentic writing skills required in the the new writing curriculum. The kids love to use the mentor texts as resources and it is important to be able to refer back to mentor texts when teaching.
