Private Tour of Eshqua Bog Natural Area - Hartland, VT
Item Number: 331
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Eshqua Bog Natural Area is a 40-acre parcel that surrounds and protects an 8-acre wetland in Hartland, VT. This wetland is technically not a bog, but a rich fen: the input of mineral-rich groundwater provides the right conditions for an unusually varied collection of orchid species. A boardwalk through the middle of the fen enables visitors to get a close look at all these beautiful plants, but the main attraction at Eshqua Bog is the showy lady's-slippers and their magnificent mid-June display. Intriguing carnivorous plants such as purple pitcherplant (Sarracenia purpurea) and round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) occur in the more acidic areas of the fen. This sanctuary is jointly owned and managed by the Vermont Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and New England Wild Flower Society.
Bid today on a very special private walk of the sanctuary with Amanda Weise, Ecological Programs Coordinator at New England Wild Flower Society, and four of your friends in June 2015 to see showy lady's-slippers (Cypripedium reginae), white northern bog-orchids (Platanthera dilatata), green bog-orchids (Platanthera huronensis), and yellow lady's-slippers (Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens). An amazing sight...don't forget your cameras!
