Description
Enjoy these two Syrah's from Carlisle Winery.
Full-bodied. Concentrated. Opulent. These are some of the descriptors we often hear applied to our wines. However, we also hear the words elegant, balanced, complex. Yes, through hard work in the vineyard and winery, we believe you can have it all, the best of both worlds. Our approach to winemaking is simple, yet difficult. We prefer to intervene in nature's process as little as possible. We often rely on uninoculated fermentations and use minimal new oak. We rarely fine or filter. However, we are not dogmatic and will intervene if we feel it results in a higher quality wine while still remaining true to the vintage and the vineyard.

A knockout Syrah and the most impressive wine I've tasted from the Vineyard, the inky colored 2011 Syrah Rosella's Vineyard dishes out spectacular aromas and flavors of smoked black fruits, citrus blossom, crushed flowers, white pepper, charcoal and intense, liquid mineral-like characteristics that are hard to describe. Backwards and massive on the palate, with thrilling concentration, great acidity and scary amounts of tannin, this classic, old school styled Syrah needs to be forgotten for 3-4 years and should see its 20th birthday in fine form. Impressive! Drink 2018-2031.

More smoke, tar and licorice show up in the 2011 Syrah Sierra Mar Vineyard with more lavender and black olive emerging with time in the glass. Rich, decadent and voluptuous, with big structure, it's not quite as backwards or formidable as the Rosella's, with more overall ripeness, and should be approachable at an earlier age. Nevertheless, 2-3 years of bottle age are recommended and it should cruise for 10-12 years after the vintage. Drink 2015-2021+.
