Student designed, limited edition jewelry made possible through a program between The Kalo Foundation and Maine South High School. The Kalo Foundation outreach representatives Herb Zuegel and Burt Olsson visit the classroom with an overview of traditional silvermithing in the Kalo tradiion. Students have the unique opportuntiy to view working drawings by Yygve Olsson, the last head of The Kalo Shop. Students then refine their designs and work with thier teacher Sophia Pichinos and silver clay instructor Vicky Bellisario to bring their designs to life. Student designs are executed in Art Clay Silver, a clay like product that contains silver and an organic binder. When pieces are dry they are fired and the organic component burns away leaving 99.9% pure silver.
