Small Statue of Amitayus, seated in a meditative posture, his hands cradling a vase (kalasha) containing the elixir of immortality (amrita). inlaid with turquoise and coral. 4.5 inch Buddha Amitayus (Of Infinite Life) is a deity associated with rites that to ensure a long life. Amitayus is closely connected with Amitabha, the Buddha of infinite Light, and in some texts the two names are used interchangeably for the same deity. Amitayus although referred to in the Mahayana literature, is also a very popular meditational deity in Vajrayana Buddhism. He belongs to the important and popular set known as the Three Long-life Deities: Amitayus, White Tara and Ushnishavijaya.
