This skull has been used in extensive research into crystal skulls by the Crystal Skull Research Group founded and led by Master Ho in Anaheim, California.  The group focused on the effects and changes in the skulls when used in conjunction with Max, one of two crystal skulls that has been scientifically proven to be classified as "ancient".  Max has been dated to be approximately 10,000 years old and is currently in the possession of Jo Ann Parks, who graciously brought Max to the research group and who also participated in the research.

The skull was included in many different types of research, including meditation, measurements of changes in energy as the skulls were exposed to light and sound (which included sounds of the planets as recorded by NASAs Voyager and chants and mantras by Tibetan monks and nuns).   It was also included in various rituals.  These influences have combined to give this skull a unique energy.

Smoky quartz is a very protective and grounding stone. It is an excellent stone for protection from negative energy, as it is a very powerful tool for negating it.

The skull represents the impermanence of life and the limits of human knowledge.  Using a skull as a focus of meditation, one can reflect upon the inevitability of death and the necessity of embracing life filled with compassion.
