Description

Spend the day with geologists Duane and Ruth Braun to learn about the geologic history of Mount desert Island (MDI).  This personalized field trip should take at least 5 hours as you are introduced to the rocks of MDI and how global plate tectonics have resulted in a new interpretation of the geologic history of the Island.  Examine the evidence for determining that MDI was a volcano 420 million years ago; learn the most resent interpretation of Maine's and MDI's origins; and the consequences of 5000 + feet of ice covering the island several times during the last one millions years.
