Description
Hardmade Woodworks in Coconut Grove specializes in reclaiming urban trees that have been struck by lightning or have fallen in hurricanes. In the capable hands of RE parent Ken Russell, these trees find a second life as beautiful works of art and furniture.
"The Commodore Coffee Table is a book-matched Albizia slab from the giant tree that stood on the corner of Commodore Plaza across from the Coconut Grove Post Office for over 80 years. After being struck by lightning, the tree slowly died until removal was necessary. Fortunately, the spirit of this tree lives on in this natural edge coffee table with steel mid-century hairpin legs designed by Henry P. Glass. Nine coats of hand-rubbed Danish oil bring out the iridescent tones and striping while retaining the texture of the natural wood. Cracks and irregularities add character and are inherent to live-edge slabs."
