Description

Hardmade Woodworks in Coconut Grove specializes in reclaiming urban trees that have been struck by lightning or have fallen in hurricanes. In the capable hands of RE parent Ken Russell, these trees find a second life as beautiful works of art and furniture.

"For nearly 80 years, this Albizia tree stood tall in the Commodore Plaza of Coconut Grove. After being struck by lightning, it died and was removed. We are lucky to have saved such a large and rare specimen. This particular slab, the center pith and largest slice at over 10' x 32" x 3/4", shows the greatest example of the grain and age of the tree. Of note is the unique branch (near the center top), which was cut off at a right angle 20 years ago. The tree grew over the cut and eventually absorbed it, capturing the branch like a fossil."

The wood has been rubbed to a high polish with eight coats of Danish oil. This slab is ready to be hung and displayed on any wall with the attached Mahogany French Cleat on the back. Winning bidder will receive free delivery and installation by the artist, Ken Russell.
