Description

CSA HALF SHARE from Huguenot Street Farm

Half the Full Share (actually a little more than half for technical reasons) and access to the U-Pick garden. At least as much food as most farms' full shares.  It has become the most popular option especially for smaller families. Weekly Pick-up.

Huguenot Street Farm is located on historic Huguenot Street right in the heart of New Paltz. We have CSA distributions on the farm and in Newburgh, NY. Over 125 varieties of naturally grown vegetables, cut flowers, and fruits are grown here on 77 acres of forever protected and fertile crop land, forest, and wetlands. For more than a decade, our farm has been an incubator for innovative technologies and processes for an extremely low carbon footprint, beyond organic agriculture, while providing our CSA members with amazing vegetables at below supermarket prices.

CSA distributions generally run 22 weeks from the first week in June through October with make-up and additional optional weeks in early November. The CSA distributes fruits and vegetables only. We also have a great U-Pick selection that includes flowers, berries, peppers, and beans. Last year we offered eggs and cheese from local farms, but those would be bought separately as we've done previously with bread. This year we also looking to experiment with extending the season by growing extra late season root crops.

While we have a strong belief that food in the U.S. is TOO CHEAP (meaning that consumer expectations for low vegetable prices encourage agri-business "efficiency" and all the health and environmental issues that come with it), we are also committed to providing food locally at below supermarket prices. Our CSA is geared towards the regular folks in our community, and it is important to us that it remains affordable.

There are NO WORKING MEMBER requirements, although there are plenty of optional "help us out" days which we'll email you about as the season progresses. There is no price advantage to helping us ... it's just fun!

One interesting thing about Huguenot Street Farm is that you can drop out of this CSA at ANY TIME during the season for an immediate and full pro-rated refund with no penalty or loss of deposit. We don't want anyone to feel like they are held hostage by the CSA model. And the nice thing is that, other than people who move out of town, almost no one ever takes us up on the offer.
