Description

Industrial designers develop concepts and designs for manufactured products.

It is the job of an industrial designer to create, plan and style manufactured goods, including automobiles, household products, food packaging, consumer electronics and medical equipment.

An industrial designer considers the usability, ergonomics and aesthetics of common mass-produced items and works to improve the design, function, engineering and marketing of these items. Industrial designers are responsible for the familiar look of brands and products like Jeep, iPods and the Coke bottle.

Your day as an Industrial Designer will be at Beyond Design, Inc. on North Ravenswood. Beyond Design is a strategic design consultancy specializing in New Product Development (NPD) and owned by a Lane Tech parent.

During your Shadow Day, you'll be given a tour of Beyond Design's incredible studio space (see photos), where you'll meet the employees and view the different programs they use to conceptualize and design products and solutions. During lunch you'll be invited to ask as many questions as you have about the profession - or maybe you can share a design idea you have!

Job shadowing is an effective and efficient way for a high school junior or senior to gather information when choosing colleges, college programs, and majors!
