Reiki practitioner, Heather McCutcheon, has been teaching Reiki (energy healing) sessions for years and finds tremendous benefit in offering 10-15 minute demonstrations to underserved populations and those within established institutions. This helps the recipients by alleviating pain and anxiety, and helps raise awareness of the many benefits of Reiki throughout the greater population.

 

To that end, she developed a volunteer program within the
Jesse Brown VA Hospital through which Reiki practitioners
provide Reiki to veterans. Every Friday morning two practitioners are available to veterans who wish to utilize our services. They spend time educating both new and return clients, bearing witness to the shifts in their wellbeing and hearing their priceless feedback. This is a fantastic opportunity
for any student interested in the health sciences to gain an understanding of how bioenergetic fields can be influenced to promote health and wellbeing on physical, emotional and psychological levels. (There is a similar program at U of Chicago medical school, which the faculty and Assistant Dean agree is excellent experience for tomorrow's doctors). The student will be able to receive a Reiki session as well as help pass out information, manage the signup list and observe all the proceedings.
