     One of Mrs. Reyff's favorites, this is a story of a Black family facing racial prejudice in the South during the Depression.  An award-winning book.

7.  THE PEARL by John Steinbeck (AR BL 7.1)
     Another of Mrs. Reyff's favorites...famous Bay Area author writes if the struggles of a poor family in Mexico...

8.  THE SUPERNATURALIST by Eoin Colfer (AR BL 4.8)
     Futuristic tale about 14 year old Cosmo with supernatural parasites and nonstop action!  Written by the popular author of the Artemis Fowl series.

9.  THIEF EYES by Janni Lee Simner ( AR BL 4.2)
     A tale of alternate reality in the realm of fairies!  This is a page-turner that you can't put down!

10.  WITCH & WIZARD, THE GIFT by James Patterson
     This extremely popular author has created a tale of two teenagers with special powers, and a 'New Order', who are trying to destroy all music, books, art and imagination!  Scary!  Short chapters make this a fast, wild read!

11.  THE CHILDREN of HURD by J.R.R. Tolkien
      Thought you'd read it all?  This explains Middle-earth long before The Lord of the Rings!  Recently published with genealogies, maps and list of all of the children, too.  Perfect for any fan of Tolkien.

12.  THE BLUE SHOE by Roderick Townley (AR BL 4.2)
