Description

A Brain, A Heart and Some Courage and this Wine is Yours--from Scarecrow!

--Two 750 ml 2012 M. Étain Cabernet Sauvignon in a signature wooden box

The Scarecrow label pays tribute to the endearing and indomitable character from the film, The Wizard of Oz, and evokes a distinctly American icon of optimism and possibility. The grapes for the spectacular and much heralded Scarecrow wine are grown on a legendary vineyard in Rutherford from vines that are more than 60 years old. The vineyard was owned by the illustrious J.J. Cohn, who as Chief of Production at MGM Studios, was instrumental in making many classic films including The Wizard of Oz.

The much-lauded team of Winemaker Celia Welch and Vineyard Manager Mike Wolf have an intimate knowledge of each and every row of fruit from the Rutherford Vineyard that go into Scarecrow. Each harvest is a stunningly choreographed ballet, individual blocks pressed and aged separately so as to best reveal the unique characteristics of each. During the course of the blending process a certain dynamic synergy occurs -- the “Aha Moment” when as a team, Scarecrow comes to be.

A thrilling event transpires during the blending of Scarecrow. The portion of juice that isn’t included in the final Scarecrow blend is always so undeniably superb that all are inspired to bottle it. Scarecrow introduced their new label from the J. J. Cohn Estate, M. Étain (roughly, the Tin Man), in 2008: it is a stunning Cabernet Sauvignon which charmingly displays a perfect balance between power and elegance. Here, for you, are two 750s from the 2012 vintage.

The very existence of M. Étain is determined on a vintage by vintage basis and accordingly, amounts vary and are exceedingly limited. Scarecrow and M. Étain are produced on the basis of quality over quantity with the intention of meeting the highest of expectations.
