This port and Zinfandel are no longer available on the open-market. The Zinfandel is a library wine from the Picchetti cellar. About the Port: A luscious fortified port, comprised of 50% Zinfandel and 50% Petite Sirah from the Bellicitti Ranch in Saratoga. The beautiful fruit and spice from the Zinfandel dominates the blend, and is complemented by the richness of the Petite Sirah. Opulent and substantial, it is lightly touched with vanilla and tobacco leaf, with a silky mix of red currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit. It gains concentration through the middle, and then lingers through a long smooth finish. This elegant dessert wine is perfect for sipping at cellar temperatures with dark chocolate, a blue cheese such as Stilton, dried fruit and smoked ham, or on its own after a meal. Pure decadence! About the Zinfandel: Nestled in the heart of suburbia on Allendale Avenue in Saratoga, the 43-year old Bellicitti Vineyard produces vibrant full-bodied Zinfandels, bursting with flavors of raspberry compote, lavender, toasty brioche and cracked black pepper. This vintage was barrel-aged for two years in American oak, which further adds to the complex characteristics synonymous with “old vine” Zinfandels. The fruit intensity, moderate acidity and balanced tannins make it very approachable now, but it will continue to reward with up to 5 more years in the bottle. Serve with lightly spiced dishes, such as pulled pork, barbequed ribs, Italian sausage, grilled eggplant or Cioppino. Belli-citti-ssimo!
