From Minnesota Orchestra's website ~ "Osmo Vänskä begins our tribute to spirit and spring with Rimsky-Korsakov’s transcendent Russian Easter Overture, celebrating both the resurrection of Christ and the rebirth of the earth after the death of winter. The arrival of spring is further heralded in Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, its exquisite melodies delivered by Concertmaster Erin Keefe. Messiaen called birds “the greatest musicians” on the planet; hear them sing in this enchanting showpiece for piano. The program concludes with Respighi’s Church Windows, each movement depicting a different biblical scene."
