Description
Ball point click pen hand turned from Burmese Blackwood by Jim Parker, father of Jeff Parker, past FEPS Board member. Silver & gold trim.
Called by a number of names, such as Khamphi Rosewood or Laos Rosewood, this species is actually in the true rosewood genus (Dalbergia). In addition to its unique coloration and grain patterning, Burmese Blackwood is also reputed to be very resonant, and is sometimes used for marimba bars and other musical instrument applications.
The group of pens shown in the second picture represents all of the hand turned pens donated by Mr. Parker to the Taste of Eden Prairie 2015. Some are available in the online auction (look for them in other listings) and some will be available at the Taste of EP's Silent Auction on Feb 21st.
