Barr was considered one of the top linebacker prospects for the 2014 NFL Draft and was selected ninth overall by the Vikings. He started every game for the Vikings in 2014 and was awarded NFC defensive player of the week for week 8. Barr started most of the season but his season was cut short due to a injury and he was put on injured reserved. He ended his rookie season with 70 combined tackles, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown) and 3 pass deflections. He was a top contender for defensive rookie of the year.
