Description

Approximately 50" square, this gorgeously crafted quilt celebrates the life of the quilter - a 74 year old woman named Elsie.

In the center of this predominantly dark red and off-white quilt lies the female gender symbol.  Within the ring is printed: "I am a 74 year old woman. Through the years, I have played many roles - some have come and gone, but at my very core, I am still a woman."

Surrounding the female symbol are images of a woman as she travels through life - beginning as a baby and ending as an old woman.

At each of the four corners, a multicolored floral graphic is adorned with tiny beads.

Finally, around red border, a line of printed text lists all of the many roles this woman has played, from "cookie maker" to "secretary" to "community activist" to "grandmother."

The back is quilted in a swirling pattern over a multicolored floral fabric and includes a panel listing the quilter's name and address.

Special Instructions

Selected by a Cedar Crest alumna at the New Jersey Quilt Guild's Summer 2013 show, this beautiful work of art filled her with memories of her four years at Cedar Crest.  She donated this to our auction in gratitude for having been able to receive an education in an environment that promoted women.
