Although racing stock cars here began 12 years ago, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been a host to motor racing dating back to 1909, first as the home of the Indy 500 and the aspiration of all open-wheeled racers and now for NASCAR as well. The tradition at IMS is just as rich as the history at this fabled track. Each year the winner of the Brickyard 400 kneels down and "kisses the bricks" on the front stretch to pay their respects to the brickyard of the IMS and to this time-old tradition. No other Nextel cup race draws more than 400,000 fans, nor can any other facility come close to Indy`s longevity and sense of innovation.
