Description

Take advantage of this unique opportunity for a three hour private glassblowing lesson with Jamie Harris, PS 39 parent and glassblowing artist, at UrbanGlass, a state-of-the-art facility in Downtown Brooklyn/Ft. Greene.  Following a tour of the UrbanGlass facility, Jamie will work with you to make some of the following:

  • Glass flowers

  • Paperweights

  • Ornaments

  • Pumpkins

A graduate of Brown University, Jamie has studied at some of the most prestigious glass schools in the country: The Pilchuck Glass School, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Penland School of Crafts, the Haystack School and the Corning Museum of Glass.

Jamie's work has long been distinguished by his unique and painterly use of color and design.  HIs approach to his work reflects a painterly perspective; his work is about loud splashes of color, about capturing the innate way glass transmits, reflects and absorbs color.  Although he employs the tools and craft of traditional Venetian glassmaking in his work, he is more interested in how he can reinterpret these techniques in unconventional ways, exploring a modern sensibility of color and color patterning.
