Margaret Wise Brown wrote this story in 1943, and it was discovered after she had passed away. When Stephen Savage was offered the chance to illustrate The Fathers Are Coming Home, by the author of Goodnight Moon, he couldn't believe it (as he said in one of his interviews). Stephen Savage is known for his economical style of illustration that conveys complex ideas and emotion with simple lines and color. He is the illustrator of the acclaimed New York Times bestselling picture book Polar Bear Night, which was named a New York Times Best Illustrated children’s book and an American Library Association notable book.
