Description

Imagine how to teach zoo-born monkeys to live in their native forest home in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! In a two-hour appearance for your group, Dr. Benjamin Beck and his wife Beate will share their personal adventures in developing the reintroduction program that helped improve the status of golden lion tamarins from "critically endangered" to "endangered." Also included is one personalized autographed copy of "Thirteen Gold Monkeys," Dr. Beck's novel based on the early days of golden lion tamarin reintroduction. Much of the novel is set in the National Zoo and speaks strongly to the role of zoos in the conservation of endangered species.

Special Instructions

Appearance to be set at a mutually agreed-upon date before March 2016 and in the DC area (within 25 miles of the Smithsonian's National Zoo).
