Dorothy MacKenzie Kazuri Beads Necklace
Item Number: 178
Time Left: CLOSED
Description
Kazuri bead necklaces are produced in a small workshop where Kenyan women make ceramic beads from clay brought down from the Kenyan mountains. The beads are carefully hand shaped, polished, fired, painted and fired again. The result is Kazuri, the Swahili word for small and beautiful. Kazuri employs over 300 women who otherwise would not have jobs, as they are unskilled and uneducated.
