Trout Gulch Vineyards- 2011 Grenache blanc

Description
2011 Grenache blanc, la grande plage diurne (San Lucas AVA) – An alluring combination of rich flavors and refreshingly crisp acidity in the mouth with varietal aromas of green apple and preserved lemon. This wine was produced entirely in stainless steel to preserve the inherent fresh fruit qualities. The name refers to the characteristic daily occurrence of large diurnal ranges from low to high temperatures in the rugged San Lucas sub-AVA of Southern Monterey County where the temps can easily swing 50°F daily. The San Lucas Vineyard sits on a gently sloped and well-drained mesa adjacent to the Salinas River where the loamy soil allows deep root penetration of 60” or more. Warm days are followed by cooling late afternoon winds. Hands on farming incorporates low shoot and cluster densities. A divided canopy trellis exposes fruit to filtered sunlight to optimize the canopy-to-fruit ratio. The Grenache blanc block is small, under 1.5 acres. Suggested pairings for this delicious wine include: steamed cockles, a risotto of crevices or scallops, trout meuniere, pumpkin veloute, and a salade Nicoise.
166 cases produced, harvested September 18th 2011 and bottled in December 2012.
=================
Trout Gulch Vineyards is the current evolution of zeal that Père et Fils, Bernie and Gerry Turgeon
share in their dedication to producing wines of extraordinary character. Their focus is Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA but extends to include varietals and AVA’s that embody time in a bottle. Their pursuit is the expression of terroir: grapes, sun, soil, water, and air.
Producing award-winning Santa Cruz Mountains AVA Pinot Noir & Chardonnay from their mountain estate since 1987. The Turgeon Family extols the virtues of the Mountains, wines of unrestrained varietal character in the Burgundian tradition. I do not keep regular tasting room hours at the winery. However wine tasting, tours and special events may be arranged by contacting me directly. I've shared space with Equinox Methode Champenoise/Bartolo since 2006. The winery is located at 427-C Swift Street on Santa Cruz's West Side. Special Events include Santa Cruz Mountains Passport Saturdays, Vintners' Festival, Dare to Pair, Dinner Markets as well as other scheduled Surf City Vinters' events.
