Description
This stunning black and white photo was taken by FTCNS Orange Family parent, Lynn Fuller. It is entitled "Malecón" and was shot in Havana in October 2005 with ISO 800 35mm film, converted to digital. The Malecón is the seawall that snakes along the coast.
Lynn explains, "Stepping outside José Martí airport was akin to entering a bell jar. In 2005, Havana remained largely untouched by and out of sync with the ever-growing consumerism of the outside world, as evidenced by the city's regal but dilapidated architecture and by the classic American cars roaming the streets. The engines had been cleverly restored with scavenged foreign auto parts and the constant whirl of tourists bespoke modernity but the photographs of everyday life staunchly conjured a different era.
Over the next couple decades, it will be interesting to see how the loosening US embargo will impact future photographs of Cuba's landscape and lifestyle."
The photo is set in a black 11x14 inch frame.
