Description
1 Bottle of Roederer Estate, non vintage, Brut Rosé, Anderson Valley, USA
Roederer Estate Brut is the first California sparkling wine to be produced by Champagne Louis Roederer. In a location 125 miles north of San Francisco near the Mendocino Coast lies the the Anderson Valley. This valley offers the cool climate and well-drained soils that are ideally suited to the Roederer winemaking style. As with most rosés primarily made with more Pinot Noir than Chardonnay, this sparkling wine is a blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. This Brut Rosé is full and round with smooth flavors and fine persistent bubbles. Ideal as an aperitif or goes well with spring and summer lunches.
1 Bottle of Sharffenberger, Cremant, Anderson Valley, USA
The history of Scharffenberger Cellars begins in 1981 in the heart of California’s Anderson Valley. Originally founded by John Scharffenberger it has gone through many transitions tough keeping its original philosophy of winemaking and consistent quality. This sparkling wine consists of approximately two-thirds Chardonnay and one-third Pinot Noir. After approximately two years on the lees, there are notes of freshly baked bread and pastry that enhances the more fruit forward style of the wine. Finally, after several months on the cork, the wine develops caramel and hazel complexors. Ideal as an aperitif and also goes well a spring/summer lunch.
1 Bottle of Rosenblum Cellars, Zinfandel 2000, San Francisco bay, USA
At Rosenblum, they are famous for being all about Zinfandel. Rosenblum Cellars has some of the highest rated, most-awarded Zins from California’s most highly regarded vineyards. This Zinfandel, from the Oakley Vineyards which sits in the shadow of the inlet of the San Francisco Bay, shows a robust color with a bouquet reminiscent of rich plums, ripe cherries and chocolate. Flavors of dark blackberry, cherry and cassis with hints of chocolate and spice make it a good wine to accompany spit roasted chicken marinated in soy sauce, garlic and mustard.
A single vineyard syrah from the Miura vineyards, in the Santa Lucia Highlands near Monterey, made for Gary's vineyards. The Syrah is planted at the top part of the vineyard. This vineyard ripens very late, sometimes going into early November! The winemaker is much more influenced by the northern Rhone style of Syrah, Cote-Rotie and Hermitage, than by the southern Australia style. In others words he prefers more meaty, bacon fat, deep, dark fruited wine with good acidity to a more jammy and high octane style. At the winery, in many years, this is our favorite wine. Ideal with grilled meat.
