Imagine the journey of this magnificent one-of-a-kind piece.  How might it have landed in Leelanau County?

Crewel is an ancient embroidery art using wool – a stitchery technique at least 1000 years old.  It enjoyed a heyday in the 17th century and continued throughout early America.  This piece was passed on through several pilgrim ancestors who carried it from place to place, possibly by covered wagon and/or steamboat, landing finally into my grandmother's cabin in Leland where it was most probably used as an "over-bed" hanging to create warmth and hold the warp of pioneer days past.

Possible use today are endless – bedspread, drapes, wall hanging – lending the spirit of an old world gone by to a home of today.

Blanket measures 97.5" by 83.5"

This Live Event Item offers Absentee Bidding.
