This painting had its start as photos Peter Alexander took of Los Angeles from the air in the late 1980's. He then made an oil and acrylic-on-canvas painting derived from several of the photos, to form an imaginary place (though given an actual place-name, Van Nuys, as in the area of Los Angeles).  This original painting was photographed, and the photo then converted to digital media for later printing with acrylic onto a specially treated canvas or polysilk.   In this highly experimental, multiple-identity existence, whether to call this work a "painting" or a "photograph" seems a bit beside the point!  The result is a philosophically profound and mysteriously beautiful play of light in the dark.   Over its lifetime there will be a limit of 75 of this image created in this scale.
