About Down Under Yoga:

At Down Under School of Yoga, we believe yoga is for everybody. With three levels of instruction, many different styles of yoga and classes from sunrise to sunset, you’ll find yoga classes for all the major yoga traditions under one roof. Power, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Restorative and more. So whether it’s power or precision, strength or surrender, come explore with us!

Kids Classes: Our yoga classes for children and teens cultivate invaluable life skills while strengthening and stretching young bodies through joyful movement. Yoga classes give kids the space and opportunity to explore while honing self-awareness, mindfulness and the ability to self-soothe when things get rocky. While school imparts math, reading, and writing, yoga classes cultivate a skill-set to excel and find happiness in all aspects of life.  Test out the series with a Newcomer 3 Pass & if you bring a new friend to the studio their first class is free!

Down Under Yoga offers a variety of yoga programs for children and teenagers from pre-school through high school, with classes held in our studio and schools. Classes are banded by age, to ensure that the content is appropriate and to foster a sense of community in which students support each other and learn to take their yoga off the mat and into the world around them. In all cases, the emphasis is on having fun, moving well, and settling into the body and breath. Yoga classes can also provide a safe haven during times of stress and change, where kids, tweens and teens can tune into their inner strength and discover what calm feels like.

Types of Classes

More About Down Under's Philosophy:
Down Under School of Yoga is New England’s premier yoga and movement school, and is home to some of America’s finest teachers and a vibrant student body. This Boston yoga studio began as a group of friends teaching in a parish hall and those humble origins can still be felt today. It’s a personal place – everything you see is the creation of our students from the art to the studio design. So don’t be shy – treat our Boston yoga studios as your home and tell us how to ensure this is an inspiring, supportive, beautiful place for you to practice.

Our Promise
As students and teachers of yoga, we are the stewards of this ancient practice, so the way we act off the mat is as important as what we do on it. The studio is a place of teaching and learning and won’t make corporate product deals or trademark new styles of yoga because a key principle of yoga is satya meaning truthfulness. We don’t sell $100 yoga pants because aparigraha means non-possession so what you wear doesn’t matter and we adore you in your oldest shirt! We’ll continue to take yoga off the mat with charity classes, philosophy groups, discussions and workshops. These things define the very nature of who we are as a community.

Healthy Body, Quiet Mind
Yoga is a 5000 year old discipline that teaches physical poses or asanas in a way that integrates body, mind, and spirit. Many come to yoga for its physical benefits – strength, flexibility, balance and better alignment. Yoga is now a doctor’s first prescription for back pain, anxiety, depression or insomnia, cardiac and respiratory issues, osteoporosis and arthritis. It’s proven to lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, improve breathing, concentration and mood. And in training your body, you’re also training your mind. Yoga is defined as the cessation of mental chatter, meaning as you begin to study your physical habits, you’ll observe your mental and emotional ones. We invite you to be curious about your relationship to intensity, to silence, to trying something new. Pay attention to the texture of your breath when frustrated, afraid or upside-down. We believe yoga should reveal and challenge your habits, not reinforce them. The student who loves to move often struggles with stillness. The yogi who delights in precision gains something different when asked to flow with body and breath. We invite you to practice what is heavenly and hardest for you, to expand your practice and possibilities.
