Why we're here - and why your child should join us

Public schools in the United States face an impossible challenge of teaching mathematics in diverse classrooms without any systematic curriculum. As the world grows flatter, even our best suburban schools continue to struggle when ranked on an international level.

We believe that mathematical minds can be built. Our systematic curriculum has been developed over a decade to help every child build a strong mathematics foundation.  Emphasizing understanding over memorization, our program works to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.

About RSM-Brookline:

RSM-Brookline, the newest branch of the Russian School of Mathematics in Massachusetts, opened its doors in November, 2013. The new RSM school, a campus of RSM-Newton, opened in response to a high demand for after-school math enrichment from Brookline and the surrounding communities of Arlington, Allston/Brighton, Belmont, Cambridge, Somerville, Watertown, Jamaica Plain, Newton, and West Roxbury.

As a branch of the award-winning Russian School of Mathematics, our mission is to help our K-12 students build a solid math foundation and develop the critical thinking skills that will serve them throughout their lives. We achieve this through a combination of great curriculum and exceptional teaching.

About the Principal

Ralitsa Dimitrova, Principal

Ralitsa Dimitrova

Education: M.S. in Economics, Minor in Education

With a strong leadership and economics background and almost a decade of teaching experience, Ralitsa Dimitrova was a natural choice to help run RSM-Newton. She brings a unique perspective as both a long time RSM-Newton parent as well as a talented teacher and administrator. She works continuously to make sure that RSM-Newton and its campuses in Brookline and Wellesley remain dynamic and flexible for all families.

Ralitsa first discovered RSM over seven years ago as a parent. Her two sons, Dimitar and Boris, both attended the school and have found great success as members of the RSM community. The boys' high scores on their SATs, AMC 8, 10, and 12, and AIME qualified them to join the school as math tutors.

About the Dean of Students

Nargiz Mamedova, Dean of Students

Nargiz Mamedova

Education: M.S. in Mathematics, Baku State University, Azerbaijan

Nargiz Mamedova emigrated to the US in 1999, and settled in Brookline with her family while her husband was getting his masters degree in business at MIT's Sloan School.  Having enjoyed a successful career in corporate finance for a global oil and gas corporation, she has a deep understanding of how useful math is in the real world and how a solid foundation in mathematics and critical thinking can prepare individuals to be excellent problem solvers in whatever career they may choose.  Becoming an instructor at RSM-Newton in 2012 fulfilled her lifelong dream of imparting the beauty of mathematics to school-age children.  In addition to her love of mathematics, Nargiz brings to her new role as principal the experience of being a mother of two and an RSM parent.
