This Soumack was hand-woven in Afganistan, and imported from Pakistan by Foothill Oriental Rugs.

It is made of 100 percent hand-carded, hand-spun wool. The subtle earthtones of brown, rust and tan dyes used are from vegetable extracts, and although the carpet is new, the intent is for it to have the look and feel of an antique.

The 'Soumack' weave of this piece originated in Caucasis several centuries ago and results in a carpet with a flat surface, rather than a pile. The design of this particular piece is 'Turkoman'.
