A rare opportunity to own an iconic piece of art that symbolizes the hip, cool New York of the 1980’s. Edition 205 of 250, the numbered print is signed by Ricky Powell, and titled "BASQUIAT + WARHOL 1985". Ricky Powell took this photograph of Warhol and Basquiat on Mercer Street, in 1985, as the two were on their way to the opening of an exhibition of their "Collaboration" paintings at Tony Shafrazi Gallery. ABOUT RICKY POWELL
Ricky Powell (American, b. 1961) was born and raised in New York City. The place has shaped his identity and artistic oeuvre. He describes himself as a street photographer who specializes in the “environmental portrait.” Powell’s subject matter is “the organic New Yorker,” who could be a homeless person or a multi-platinum hip hop musician. He rose to fame through his relationship with the Beastie Boys and has photographed other celebrities including Run DMC, LL Cool J, Elizabeth Taylor, Calvin Klein, Cindy Crawford, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. Nowadays his inspiration is the people he comes across in Greenwich Village, where he currently resides. His work has featured in The New York Times, The New York Post, The Daily News, The Village Voice, TIME, Newsweek, VIBE, The Source, Rolling Stone, to name a few, and he has authored four books.
