Description

4 bottles of Pinot Noir wine, plus a copy of The California Directory of Fine Wineries: Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino, 7th edition, coauthored by TMS parent Daniel Mangin

Who doesn't love a good Pinot Noir? Two Pinot-loving TMS families dutifully sampled two states' worth of wines and assembled a few of their favorites for this very special gift pack, with two wines from California and two from Oregon that represent this special varietal at its finest. Plus a beautifully photographed book of winery profiles.

Note: All of these superlative wines are currently out of stock at their respective wineries, making this a rare selection indeed.

2 from California:

La Follette  2009 Van Der Kamp Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sonoma Mountain)

Steve Hemioff of Wine Enthusiast gave this exquisite offering from winemaker Greg La Follette a 93-point rating, writing that it "just explodes in the mouth with raspberry and cherry fruit, as well as spicy complexities of cola, red licorice and smoky oak." (We concur, and wouldn't mind checking one more time.)

Etude 2012 Estate Grown Grace Benoist Ranch Carneros Pinot Noir

Antonio Galloni, formerly of Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, gave this wine high praise (and a 90-point rating) in Vinous, his current venture, calling it a "wild, intriguing wine laced with gamy, earthy, volcanic notes that add nuance and complexity."

2 from Oregon:

Winter’s Hill Vineyard 2012 Block 5 Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills)

This is a truly rare one -- Winter's Hill club members, including our ever-so-shrewd donors -- and a few lucky others snapped up all the bottles.

Patricia Green Cellars 2012 Freedom Hill Dijon 115 Pinot Noir

While writing for his own International Wine Cellar, critic Stephen Tanzer (now part of Antonio Galloni's Vinous operation), bestowed more ratings of 90 points or higher to Patricia Green Pinot Noirs than to any others out of Oregon. He gave this robust wine a 93-point rating.
