This workshop, led by prolific children's author Ellen Schecter, is for children's book writers, published or not-yet published, and willl focus on on your manuscrsipt featuring strong female characters. (They could be animal characters.)
Ellen Schecter has spent her long career writing books and television for children, with special attention to creating the strong, positive, exciting images of females that both girls and boys need to see. She's published more than twenty books for children, and her first novel,
The Big Idea [Hyperion], won the Américas Award for Children’s and Young Adult Literature. Her
Family Haggadah was a Book of the Month and Jewish Book Club selection and is now considered a classic. She’s written multiple-award-winning TV for children and families on PBS, Disney, CBS, and the Discovery channel including
Reading Rainbow, where she invented the idea of children reviewing books for children.
The workshop will be limited to 7 participants, and will meet for 2 1/2 hours in New York City on a Sunday to be mutually agreed upon by the participants .
Participants can submit their manuscripts, up to 8 pages double-spaced, in advance to Ellen, and copies should be brought to share with others at the workshop.
