BTAC Performing Arts

BTAC produces eight shows per season under the Bloomington Civic Theatre name and is best known for large musicals that range from classic Broadway shows to lesser known works. Dramas and comedies performed in an intimate Black Box Theater round out each season, delighting audiences of more than 33,000. BTAC plays a key role in our region’s vibrant arts ecosystem by making exceptional productions widely available through low ticket prices, free and convenient parking, and, thanks to the City of Bloomington, a welcoming and fully accessible facility. BTAC also gives talented actors opportunities to play substantial roles early in their careers and learn from the most respected directors and choreographers in our region. Many who get their start at BTAC go on to perform at the Guthrie, Ordway, and other prestigious venues.

About the Bloomington Center for the Arts

BTAC provides most of our programming in the Bloomington Center for the Arts, a multidisciplinary arts facility owned and operated by the City of Bloomington. The Center was constructed in 2003 as part of the Bloomington Civic Plaza, which also houses the city hall and police department. Among other amenities, the Center includes the 366-seat Schneider Theater, 115-seat Black Box Theater, the Inez Greenberg and Atrium art galleries, and numerous art classrooms. The Center is home to a number of independent arts organizations aside from BTAC, and the City of Bloomington presents an annual performance series in the Center’s theaters.
