About Kiki Huston: from http://www.kikihuston.com/meet-the-artist/
I am a maker, and am happiest when creating.
Many mediums interest me, but I fell in love with the look and feel of metal as a child. Dad was a silversmith, as a hobby. He had a small workshop in the basement of our family home. I spent many hours at his worktable experimenting & had a thriving business in my teens, selling jewelry to friends & a small museum shop.
When I left home, jewelry making fell by the wayside - though I never stopped creating.
It took about 20 years for me to rediscover my love for silver…
I now live and work as a full time jewelry artist in New Orleans, hand-fabricating my pieces with the tools I inherited from my father.
I am primarily self-taught, and have learned much from trial, error, and a few happy accidents. I have taken a few workshops, in recent years, to learn new techniques. This has been a powerful and valuable experience for me. I love the exchange of information, and the relationships that have been formed. I love to experiment in order to discover new ways to incorporate texture, color and images in my designs and am currently exploring hand painting, and even developing photographs, on enamel. I am continually finding new ways to fall in love with my craft...
Life in New Orleans provides constant inspiration for my work, from the ironwork of the French Quarter, the majestic trees gracing our neighborhoods, to our many religions and rich traditions. I believe that my work, while not always directly representational, reflects the soul and diversity of life in southern Louisiana.
I want people to wear and love my jewelry, from the everyday to the special occasion. I take great pride in knowing that the bulk of my business is repeat customers & knowing that my customers are happy. I am truly grateful to be able to make a living doing what I love….
JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT INSPIRE ME & MAKE ME HAPPY......
