W.E.B. Du Bois, champion of civil rights, founder of the NAACP, brilliant scholar, and activist for peace and social justice was born and raised in Great Barrington, MA. The W.E.B Du Bois National Historic Site is the only place in the U.S. dedicated to Du Bois's life and legacy. The National Historic Site is a multi-venue site and includes Du Bois’s family homesite and a walking tour in downtown Great Barrington.

University of Massachusetts archaeological investigations of W.E.B. Du Bois Homesite illuminate 150 years of African American presence on the rural New England landscape.
