Description
A Tansu chest is a form of mobile cabinets that were initially used in feudal Japan.
This particular piece is a Katana-Dansu and was traditionally used for the storage of sword blades by sword polishers. It was purchased by Scott Seymour from retired General Marcus Horton. General Horton acquired the chest in Japan while stationed there many years ago. It is thought to be made of Kiri wood, a form of cypress, that helped protect the blades from oxidation (rusting) in the humid months. This lightweight wood also made it easier for the sword polishers to carry it to their customers.
The chest measures approximately 43"Lx12"Wx12"D.
