Established in 1887, this world-renowned museum houses the largest collection of Egyptian ancient artifacts in the United States, including mummies and architectural remains of a Pharaoh’s palace in addition to Mayan monuments from Central America, Alaskan Inuit parkas, West African dance masks, ancient Buddhist sculpture and fine art. Three gallery floors feature materials from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Africa, Asia, Polynesia, the ancient Mediterranean world and the Americas, plus special exhibitions.
