"In Flight" is an open segmented bowl made of over 3,230 pieces of Maple, Bloodwood, Yellowheart and Wenge.

Special Instructions

Tom Lohman began woodworking 20 years ago starting with furniture and moving to laminated wood items. In the past several years he has focused on segmented woodturning creating wooden bowls and vases from a variety of exotic woods. 


Tom is a member of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) and the Segmented Woodturners, a chapter of AAW, where his work has been featured. He is also a member of the Lake Superior Woodturners where he has demonstrated his techniques. In October 2014 he demonstrated his segmented techniques at the 2014 Segmented Woodturners Symposium in San Antonio, Texas.


Tom is an electrical engineer born and raised in Duluth, MN where he resides with his wife. Some of his work can be viewed at segmentedturning.org.


This particular bowl was featured in the Duluth News Tribune's Art Gallery on March 5, 2015.
