Description
Scott Peterson holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Harvard University and has been involved in science and chemistry based demonstrations since 1995. The final details of the “Birthday Party with the Chem Guy” will be discussed and formalized with the winning bidder in advance of the demonstration. The goal for the demonstration will be to inspire, educate and entertain school aged children with experiments and demonstrations that are fun to see and do.
The party will consist of 2-3 demonstrations done by Scott, with ongoing group discussion/Q&A, followed by hands-on experiments (1-2) with the children (children will break into small groups to do their experiments) and concluding with a full-group ‘finale’ demonstration. The program will be approximately 60-90 min in length and approx. two hours total time to allow for set-up and clean up.
Optimal group size will be 12 children of elementary school age (experiments will be tailored to audience) and a few parents will be needed to assist with the hands on experiments if younger children are participating.
- Safety goggles for the children will be provided
- All participants will be required to wear safety goggles for hands-on activities
Indoor or outdoor venues are acceptable, though access to outdoor space (driveway or back-yard) allows for ‘messier’ experiments/demonstrations that cannot be done indoors. 1-2 folding tables with disposable table-cloths will need to be available on site.
All materials and reagents will be provided and may include water balloons, vinegar, baking soda, vegetable oil, hydrogen peroxide, borax, dish soap, candles, matches, dry ice, wet ice, rock salt, food coloring, carbonated drinks.
Logistics for the party will be discussed and finalized with the parents at least two weeks in advance of the event date.
