Title & Artist:  "Remembering Taylor 'Rainbow' " – by Kathy Stewart

Medium & Size:  Metallic and pearlescent hand-painted paper, cut paper, paper glue, acrylic sealer on wood.  21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D.  For indoor display only.

Artist Statement:  As an elementary and middle school art teacher, I enjoy exploring a wide range of materials and techniques. I am continually challenging myself to find interesting and inventive ways to use materials in my work. My hope is to discover new projects to share with my students.

The inspiration for my fish was based on the memory of reading to my daughter, Taylor, when she was a child. One of her favorite books was The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. She would often ask me to read and re-read it again and again. Taylor also loved anything written by Lois Ehlert and Eric Carle.

When working with our pre-K and kindergarten students at Brookwood School, I find myself often using the Ehlert and Carle books to inspire our young budding artists. It is in honoring my now 22-year-old daughter, Taylor, and the amazing young artists that I teach, that I created Remembering Taylor "Rainbow."

Artist Biography:  I have been making art continuously since I was in high school. As an undergraduate, I studied painting and later received a master’s degree in Art Education. After teaching in three different schools, I landed at Brookwood School (in Manchester, MA) in 1997. During my 18 years at Brookwood, I have taught almost every grade. I am currently working with our youngest and oldest students. I continue to learn and grow as a teacher and an artist. Away from school, in addition to making art, I enjoy cooking, doing yoga, spending time with my family and dog, and traveling.

Hosting Business:  "Remembering Taylor 'Rainbow' " is on display at Seaside Allure, 9 Pleasant St., Marblehead, MA.
