Description

Title & Artist:  "Cod-toon" – by Rachel Branham

Medium & Size:  Mixed media on wood.  24" L x 9 1/8" H x 3/4" D.  For indoor display only.

Artist Statement:  This collaged sculpture is a playful pun—by using comics and cartoons to create the design, the cod becomes a cod-toon (get it??). Although abstracted, the original illustrations are still an important component of the sculpture, and they should be seen as a tribute to the artists represented: Charles Schultz, R. Crumb, Daniel Clowes, and Bill Watterson.

Artist Biography:  Rachel Branham is a visual arts teacher at Marblehead High School. She specializes in illustrated text and two-dimensional work, and is in the process of publishing her first graphic novel through Teachers College Press. She also enjoys embroidery, sewing, printmaking, and video art.

Hosting Business:  "Cod-toon" is on display at Spirit of ’76 Bookstore, 107 Pleasant St., Marblehead, MA.
