Description
Title & Artist: "Marblehead, 1872" – by Cynthia Roberts
Medium & Size: Mixed media on wood. 21 7/8" L x 8 5/8" H x 3/4" D. For indoor display only.
Artist Statement: This work was created as a tribute to my great-great-uncle Nathaniel Ramsdell, a captain out of the port of Marblehead, uncle to my grandmother Carrie Joy Ramsdell Roberts. He sailed from Marblehead to San Francisco, traversing the seas to arrive there. I enjoy using maps as drawings—ways humans abstractly mark and measure experience.
Artist Biography: Cynthia Roberts is a visual artist born and raised in New York, now living and working north of Boston. She has exhibited in New York, Boston, and Europe. In 2012 Roberts was named Laureate of Regards Croisés, a residency and production grant sponsored by the French Institute and the city of Le Havre, France, and was Artist in Residence in Le Havre for three months.
